National Impaired Driving Prevention Month
December is National Impaired Driving Prevention Month. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), "Every day, about 37 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes — that's one person every 39 minutes. In 2022, 13,524 people died in alcohol-impaired driving traffic deaths. These deaths were all preventable".

The Insurance Resource Center
Without insurance, health care can be very expensive. While seeking affordable health care can be difficult for any condition, finding care for substance use disorder is especially tricky. Individuals and their families are often unable to find a treatment provider that accepts their insurance, or face denials for care. Sometimes they must make hard decisions to pay for the costs or go without care. The Partnership to End Addiction offers a new resource addressing the need for insurance and the steps you can take to help access the needed service. They address the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (Parity Act) that requires most health plans to cover mental health and substance use treatment the same way they cover treatment for any other disease.

The 2024 Gallery of Hope: Artistic Expressions of Recovery Across the Nation
Recognizing the transformative power of creative arts in advancing recovery, in May 2024, the Office of Recovery launched the Gallery of Hope, inviting visual art submissions from individuals with lived experience and their families.
This initiative raises public awareness and understanding of the many contributions that people in recovery bring to our lives by offering a platform for creative expression as a means of connection, healing, and empowerment. By showcasing art as a tool for growth and self-discovery, the project seeks to break down societal stigmas and foster greater understanding and support.
